Update - Thursday, Friday

US History Students have finished the 3 Branches as set out in the 1st 3 Articles of the Constituion. The plan this week changed slightly in that we used a new CPS program to review the 3 Branches information. Most students have used this program in Math classes, where they use a clicker to individually answer review questions, then see how other students answered on a color graph. This allows for instant feedback and quality discussion. The kids seemed to love the change, so we will be using it more as I learn more about the software.

Today, we begin a look at the Bill of Rights. What is an amendment? Which parts of the Bill of Rights affect you daily? Which parts affect you sometimes? What would life be like if the Bill of Rights was repealed? We will explore these questions using short video segments and a visually adapted copy of the Bill of Rights.

HW for Friday 1/18! Students will need to finish reading the Supreme Court case Miranda v Arizona, and answer questions regarding the high court's interpretation of the 5th Amendment.

Friday - We get together with Mr. Yazz' class and meet Officer Tony Mathews who demonstrates established search and siezure rules and the Miranda Rights. Students will have the opportunity to see first hand how the Bill of Rights was made to protect them -- and how it is interpreted in various ways by the courts thoughout US History!

NO Weekend HW. Friday is the end of Q2. HW this Thursday will be put into Q3 grades.

Next Week: Adopt an amendment and create a skit. We also make a foldable Bill of Rights, detailing/ showing the various amendments.
