Week of December 8th

Greetings students and parents/guardians!

Announcements:

** The Wind River Indian Reservation Toy Drive has begun. Boxes are at the front of the school. Please donate toys and blankets (New or used in good condition). Battery intensive toys (more than 2 batteries needed), or ski gear/clothing is not that helpful.

** Students and parents are welcome to take the simple survey to your left on this blog-site.

** Quiz on Wednesday: Vocabulary and major battles/turning points of the American Revolution. Students have notes from Thursday 12/4. If you were absent, please see me.

Agenda:

Monday:
Read aloud and Discuss: "Indians and Blacks in the Revolution." - "A People's History of the US"

Finish and Perform!! Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" becomes T-Pain and Common Cents. Students finish their interpretations of this motivational, revolutionary pamphlet.

HW: In preparation for Wed's quiz, students use Revolution vocab/note sheet to write 2 summarizing paragraphs. They must use all vocabulary provided to describe the basic events and flow of the Revolution. Vocab will limit their focus. Due Tuesday at the start of class!


Tuesday:

Writing Practice: Using a writing prompt and guided Jane Shaeffer organization, students write 1 paragraph using 2 CDs and 1 CM at the beginning of class.

Read aloud: John Quincy Adams, Revolutionary Interpreter "We Were There Too: Kids in US History" - Phillip Hoose

Peer Editing: Students peer edit their HW essays using a provided checklist. Students will peer edit 2 other essays and make corrections to their own. They will need to study these essays and be prepared to write one in class on Wednesday for their quiz. Students will have the option to write using a laptop on the quiz.

Wednesday:

Essay Quiz: The Revolutionary War - Students write 2-3 paragraphs in class without using notes, using Monday's HW as a guide. The actual question/writing prompt will not be provided ahead of time, but students can use their notes and HW essay as a study guide.

Nation Building Simulation!! Students are assigned the heavy task of designing a government -- the same task that faced the Federalist and Anti-Federalists after the Treaty of Paris was signed.

Thursday:
Video Clips: What if the Bill of Rights was Repealed? United Streaming Discovery Video and Discussion

Students continue to work on their Nation Building group-work. Groups that finish will present to the class.


Friday:
Final Nation Building groups present to the class.

Debate! Strong Federal Government vs. Loosely associated States? Students read samples from the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers to prepare arguments for a student debate.
