Week of Feb. 2

Welcome back folks!

Announcements: This post was changed significantly on 2/2 at 3:00 - please see changes below!

Students demonstrated their very best writing on Friday's Lewis and Clark Historical Fiction assignment! 3rd period's essays have been graded and entered. Impressive work!

Also: The Soles4Souls shoe donation drive was a HUGE success. Shoes will be mailed to a distribution center this week. Thanks for your generosity!

Agenda: We are continuing to develop our content knowledge of Westward Expansion in anticipation of the Old West Periodical Standard, in which students design and create newspapers.

Monday:
1. Begin Westward Expansion timelines

2. We are working on field observations in the style of the Lewis & Clark journals. Students are sketching flora or fauna and making observation notes. We are using Wyoming Wildlife magazine for models.

HW: Finish Field Observations for Tuesday

Tuesday:

1.Trappers and the Rendezvous! What drove men into the wilderness each summer? How did their travels break the way for greater settlement?

2. A Tale of 2 Davey Jacksons: Examination of our town's namesake and cultural roots.

Wednesday:

1. Guest Presentation! Jackson Hole Historical Society:
Not only do we learn about the updated Historical Society, but we will see a wealth of images of local homesteading, National Park history, and town history.

Thursday:
Federally mandated career survey all period with separate staff.

Friday:
1. Gold Rush! How did this event shape the growing nation and define Manifest Destiny? We will get to the bottom of this using video clips and short readings to generate questions regarding the powerful forces of Manifest Destiny on our Nation.
2.Clicker activity and smart-board games: Review of Westward expansion content.

Note: We are moving into the West Periodical Project soon!
