Monday:
On Friday, Students did a brilliant job of starting to interpret Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" and creating their own hip-hop renditions. We will be finishing these today and performing to the class.
** Due to ongoing absences, there are still a couple of remaining Franklin's Follies presentations. All groups who have presented will find their grades in Power School.
HW: Due tomorrow - Use vocabulary in your own sentences that are related to the movement for American independence.
Tuesday:
1. HW Check and Review
2. The final draft of the Declaration of Independence was edited specifically to be read aloud before Americans. We will be joining Mr. Yazzolino's classes to watch a special reading.
3. We identify the 4 parts of the Declaration. Why was each important?
Wednesday:
1. Students examine colonial reactions to the Intolerable Acts.
2. Friday's in-class essay question is reviewed. We will be concentrating on what elements proficient and advanced essays will include. Students will begin outlining a rough draft in class.
HW: Bring in a finished rough draft tomorrow, Thursday, for peer editing and teacher-student conferencing.
Thursday:
Expository writing workshop! A goal for the 8th grade team is to improve student expository writing. Today students will be in pre-selected peer-editing groups. Individual students will be conferencing with the teacher for editing suggestions.
HW: Be prepared for the in-class essay tomorrow! Vocabulary from the last 2 HWs will be required.
Friday:
Students will explain the causes of the American Revolution and the founding of our Nation. In class-essay test. Laptops will be available.
