Welcome back
from the weekend. Parent teacher conferences run from 4-8pm on Wednesday and
Thursday. Students can sign up for an arrival time in Team classes and are
encouraged strongly to attend. Election Day is on Tuesday and students, as a
culminating part of our study of the electoral process, critical analysis of
polls and research for debates will be participating in a student mock election
for the Office of the President.
Monday:
1.
Student Mock Election – This is optional for
students, but after studying the election process, analyzing polls and checking
out the results of the JHHS mock election, most students will want to
participate in this civic exercise.
Focus – Voting as a Right and the responsibility of educating one’s self
on issues and candidates.
2.
In-class student debate: These are election
debate resolutions that students chose and researched. We’ll be using a refined Lincoln-Douglas
debate style. Students either debate on a team or act as a judge.
Tuesday:
1.
ELECTION
DAY – We will be following the results of the Electoral College in class
and finishing up our debate if needed.
We will do a whole group critique of the how yesterday’s debate went, preparing
for our inter-class debate tomorrow.
2.
Quarter 1
reflection and Quarter 2 goal setting. Students will be bringing these to
P/T conferences as a talking point.
HW: Finish all
debate research details for tomorrow – These will be turned in for a current
event Grade.
Wednesday:
Inter Class Debate: Winning teams from in class debate will
compete against Mr. Poduska’s class on a common debate resolution.
Thursday:
1.
Spanish Colonization in North America – We’ll be
doing shared and an independent read, adding on to our content knowledge of
early exploration and colonization in North America. The first quiz of quarter
two will be a comparative analysis of early British and Spanish colonization.
Friday: No School
