Oct 9th -- Students began by completing a writing prompt explaining causes of European exploration of the Americas. We continued with 3 minute Discovery video clips describing the who, when and where of early explorers -- from Columbus to Magellan. Students were prompted to complete a timeline.
A demonstration was given on website vs. database search strategies on the web and students searched for reliable articles within the .org, .edu, and .gov domains.
** HW - On Thursday there will be a brief quiz on this information. Also, students will turn-in their finished "foldables" booklets they have been making to organize the exploration information.
Oct. 10th -- Students will return to the media center to develop their thesis statements and continue research. Students have been learning about the thesis statement in their respective English classes. Media Center staff will give a short presentation on Noodle Tools -- a citation program.
Oct. 11th -- Students will take the assessment on Early Exploration in the Americas.
Oct 12th -- Students' final day in media center -- They will be using the Inspiration software to begin organizing their notes into an outline. In reality, many students will simply be familiarizing themselves with the software, while finishing their notes.
