Monday, Oct. 22

Greetings students and parents,

I hope all had a great weekend. GO BRONCS!

Rough drafts are due today along with a works cited, an outline and students' notes. Mr. Yazz' and Mr. Wells' classes will be joining today for a peer editing workshop. Students will use editing guides to evaluate clarity, flow and overall readability of their peers' papers. NOTE: On larger projects such as this, late work will be reduced 10% per day. I will be collecting rough drafts today and looking at them tonight.

As the end of the first academic quarter is upon us, most of this week will be spent in the media center or in class with laptops editing and finalizing the research paper.

Students will be handing in their final projects on Friday, Oct. 26th. For many students, this has been their first experience with an in-depth research assignment with research, note-taking, planning and writing phases. They should all be VERY PROUD of themselves. Most of them will have learned a new and critical skill set.

Tues. October 23rd -- Students were taught parenthetical citation in their English classes this month. We will dovetail that lesson, examining examples of appropriate in-text citation. Strategies for doing this in their own papers will be demonstrated. Students will get their rough drafts returned and will begin to identify where they need to document parenthetically.

Wed. Oct. 24th and Thurs. Oct. 25th -- Students work in class to finalize their papers, create covers and prepare their project for submission on Friday. (Neat or expensive cover gagets do not get extra points.)

Fri. Oct 26th -- The movie from last Friday was postponed until this week. NOTE: The Halloween Dance will most likely be moved due to a Broncs playoff game! See you at the game.
