Last week of November

(Thurday and Friday's activities and HW have been updated. Please check!)

Welcome back! I hope all are returning a bit more rested than when they left:)

This week, we will transitioning from early colonial studies into the movement for political independence.

Monday 11/26 -- Did you ever wonder about the meaning of the Latin, symbolism and those famous mug-shots on our US treasury's notes? We will investigate this and more, relating it to some of the more famous colonists who were charged with creating the national symbols that appear on our legal tender. Students then create their own money/symbols! We will warm-up with interactive colonial matching game using the smartboard.

Tuesday 11/27 -- Students read aloud in small groups the personal account of Olaud Equiano -- A West African boy kidnapped into Slavery. We will compare this vivid account with other slave narratives and place into the context of life in the Southern Colonies.

HW: Students read Chp 4 Sect. 1 -- Life in the Southern Colonies. They will develop/write a 5 question quiz to test their peers in class on Wednesday.

Wednesday 11/28 -- Life in the mature colonies through the eyes of one of the most eclectic and ingenious Americans -- Ben Franklin. Students will identify the important elements of life in the colonies by examining the varied roles of Benjamin Franklin. Students create foldables notes deliniating the varied roles that Franklin assumed. No HW

Thursday -- "Poor Richard's Almanac" -- Students will discover the practical yet rebellious sensibilities of Franklin by reading and mimicking the often hilarious prose of the well-published and well-read "Richard".
