Week of Nov. 5th

Greetings!

1. This is parent conference week. They will be Tues. and Wed. the 6th and 7th from 3-7 pm. Sign up continues for meeting times. Please call or e-mail to set up a time!

There will be a quiz on Thursday, Nov. 8th: The quiz theme is early English colonization: Jamestown and New England. In the text, this is Chapter 3, sections 1 & 2.


Monday: In class today, students will start with a journal entry hypothesizing on the fate of the settlers at Roanoke. Then students will begin actual work on a marketing/advertisement that attracts settlers to join the Virginia Company. Students will have the opion of working on a computer or hand drawing the poster.
HW -- Finish this project at home for presentation on Tuesday. (Flash drives can be obtained in the media center).

Tuesday in class: Students will discuss religious intolerance and identify current examples. They will then begin to read aloud Chapter 3 Section 2 in small groups while taking notes using a provided organizer. Group members will then meet with members of other groups to jigsaw the information and complete their organizers.
HW -- If students did not finish the jigsaw activity, they must finish reading the section and complete their notes on the organizer.


Wednesday: Students will begin with a cause and effect comparison on the settlements of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. This will be completed in pairs and then discussed as a whole class. We will spend the class reviewing vocabulary from both sections 1&2 of Chapter 3 in preparation for the first quiz of the second quarter.

Thursday: Assessment and Current Events. This assessment will ask students to use relevant vocabulary in context and to compare the causes and early governments of Jamestown, the Massachusetts Bay Company, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Friday: No School
