First weeks of February

As the JHMS world turns:
Tomorrow, 2/6 school starts exactly 2 hours later. District transportation runs accordingly.

Spelling Bee tomorrow, 2/6! Winners go to State! Mr. Wells' homeroom features the top 2 finishers last year: Catherine Cloetta and Tatianna Luchetta. Go Homebase!

Valentine's Day Dance Friday 2/7 -- Bring 2 dollars!

Guest Speaker and local author Ken Thomasma will visit our classes on Friday, 2/7 to discuss the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

This week: We are beggining with a Westard Expansion unit featuring Manifest Destiny herself.

Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 4, 5 -- Class elections in keeping with Super Tuesday! Then a read aloud - Lewis and Clark encounters with the Grizzly!
Students then are in the Computer Lab working in pairs on a Lewis and Clark WebQuest -- Students log in, watch short video clips and analyze them. These are due on Wednesday, and will become HW for groups that didn't finish -- Those shadowing at the community school must come prepared on Wednesday.

Wednesday - Late start: Current Events -- Super Tuesday results and their impact. Then, using new, CPS technology, students answer questions using individual clickers that provide student and teacher with individual feedback.

Thursday: A Tale of Two Jacksons! Davey Jackson and Teton Jackson -- Competing stories about the namesake and early history of this valley. Students read and interpret a Jackson Hole Historical Society article and decide for themseleves.

Friday: Guest speaker Ken Thomasma visits to discuss local history and the Lewis and Clark expedition. Don't miss this class!

Monday 2/11 - Guest speaker from the Jackson Hole Historical Society -- Karen Rheinhart. More on our amazing local history from local experts.

Looking ahead: Thursday, 2/14 -- Students begin Westward Expansion Periodical Project to be completed over the next 2 weeks.
