Notice: parent-teacher conferences Tues and Wed this week from 3-7pm. Students may sign up for a time in class. Don't like the meeting structure? A conference can be arranged at anytime during the school year. Please e-mail or call to set one up.
Week activities and goals:
This week, students are writing the several pieces of historical fiction that will come together as their Westward Expansion Periodical. This is an 8th Grade US History Standard.
On Monday, students will see more examples of Primary Source Archives relating to their topics, then we move to the Media Center to begin typing their 3 articles, 8 theme-specific want-ads, 4 full-sized advertisements, and a crossword puzzle with at least 12 theme specific vocabulary.
Tuesday: Students begin by peer-editing their first article, and then assessing themselves on the content and style of the piece. We then move back to the media center to continue typing. Flash drives are helpful and allow kids to take the work home.
HW: 2 finished articles should be done for class on Wed. This will be checked as a HW, so students will need to have printed their pieces out.
Wednesday: Today, we begin with Current Events -- CNN Student News Election Update. Project work continues in class. Students work toward the goal of having 3 completed articles by Thursday's class. Again, these must be printed.
Thursday: Peer editing and teacher conferencing will help students assess their own progress. Most students will be finishing all required components of their papers and will be moving towards creating an original periodical template on 11*17 paper using the tools that Media specialist Jackie Riley demonstrated to the class.
Friday: No School Today
