This week - Moving on with Civil War Novels
Monday: Discussion of High School debate format for Wed.
A public reading and discussion of the Gettysburg Address. How did what Lincoln describe as a "flop" become the most celebration oration in US History?
Tuesday: Literature Circles -- Meet in novel groups for student generated activities and discussion.
Wednesday: JHHS Debate team comes to class to practice their Lincoln-Douglas debate format. Students will act as debate judges.
Thursday: Student literature groups meet once again. Check with specific novel facilitators for page numbers and assignments.
Friday: Paraphrase the Gettysburg Address! Students are assigned parts of the famous speech and translate them to their own words. We then read aloud and use as a jumping-board to discussion to an analysis of the war from Confederate and Union perspectives.
