Week of January 26th

Announcements:

** Author, Ken Thomasma, will be coming to classes on Thursday this week:)

** First week of Quarter 3!! Congrats to all on excellent and intriguing Family Trees. Many are hanging in the halls. PLEASE take them home and show your family!!!

** We are moving into Westward Expansion, which includes plenty of local History.

Agenda:

Monday:
1. Final Family Tree Presentations for students who have not presented.
2. We are in the Tech Lab finishing the Lewis and Clark United Streaming Web Activities.
HW for 3rd and 4th Period ONLY! - Geography of the Louisiana Purchase.

Tuesday:
3rd and 4th Periods will be taking the NAEP tests -All Middle School students will be taking this federally mandated test.
1. Geography of the Louisiana Purchase - Students familiarize themselves with the wide open spaces that confronted the first trappers and explorers who ventured into the Louisiana Territory.
2. Read Aloud from the journals of Lewis and Clark - Grizzly Encounters! This is a Primary Source Analysis.
3. Making Sense of the Information Gleaned from the Web Quest.
HW: Students begin to make a field observation, sketch a plant or animal and write a short description, mimicking the field notes of Lewis and Clark.

Wednesday:
1. Student News! First of the 3rd Quarter - Strategic Note-Taking
2. WhiteHouse.gov - Students check up on activity in the new administration.
3. Quiz - The basics of the Louisiana Purchase and the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Thursday:
Guest Speaker Ken Thomasma brings his wisdom, affect and many interactive artifacts to classes! The Truth about Sacajawea.

Friday:
We finish student field observations in class and present them to classmates, comparing them to actual L&C notes and drawings.
