Week of Lincoln's Birthday!

Welcome back from the weekend!

Thursday the 12th is the 200th Birthday of our Greatest President - Abraham Lincoln!
Announcements:

Wed - 11th - Late arrival for students and spelling bee during the last hour of school. (All classes will meet - much shortened).
Thursday: Holocaust Book-Burning Movie and Museum - Field Trip
Friday: Black History Month author presentation for 8th grade during 2nd period.

This Week: We conclude Westward Expansion topics and students choose a theme with which to create their Old West newspaper. We begin serious research and production next week in the media center!

Monday:
The Transcontinental Railroad - Using various primary source documents, a video clip and a reading - students will generate and answer questions regarding the When, Who, What and Why of the unification of both sides of the Nation.
Weekend HW is due today.

Tuesday:
Final Indian resistance to settlement and the tide of Manifest Destiny!
The Fort Laramie Treaty, the Black Hills, Little Big Horn and Wounded Knee.

Wednesday:
Quick Quiz on Timeline and Westward Expansion notes.
Students browse a wealth of topics for Newspaper Themes and pick one.

Thursday:
Holocaust - Book-Burning Movie and Museum - This Field Trip will leave around 10:40 and be gone most of the day.

Friday:
Finish research topic selection and begin formal research and documentation for the West Periodical Project!
