Week starting 2/17

Welcome back from the long weekend!

This week, students begin in earnest their research for the West Periodical Standard.

HW Due at the start of class on Friday: 3 Sources documented w/ notes completed towards the Newspaper Project.

Most students have chosen a topic with which they will create an authentic old west newspaper. Students have also seen many successful completed projects from previous years, and have received the formal instructions and grading rubric.

In addition to time in the media center, we will continue the read-aloud/inquiry class format on days when Mr. Yazzolino's classes are in the media center.

Agenda:

Monday - President's Day - No School

Tuesday - We begin in the media center. Librarian, Ms. Swiggum will refresh students on the wealth of resources we are blessed with at JHMS. Students will locate appropriate resources, identify writing topics, and begin note-taking.

Wednesday - We begin class with a brief look at the many roles Teton Pass has played in Jackson Hole and regional history.
Student then continue their research for the West Periodical project - students will be at various stages of reading, note-taking and writing.

Thursday - Day 2 in the media center - this will be a critical day for research!

Friday - In class, we begin with a technical presentation on the formating of a newspaper - presented by Jackie Riley, media center tech specialist. Students can begin the formatting of their own periodicals, using examples from previous years and the new information gleaned from the presentation.
