Week of May 17th

Welcome back from a BEAUTIFUL weekend!

Announcements:

**US History final essays will be composed in class on Tuesday, June 1st. Students will get a list of several essay topics this Friday and we'll be working on gathering evidence, drafting thesis statements and rough-drafts next week.

**Vocab Quiz this Wednesday - Civil War vocab part II.

** JHMS Talent Show will be on Friday, June 4th in the JHHS auditorium.

Agenda:

Monday:
1. Finish Gettysburg Address activity from Friday and read paraphrased versions aloud.
2. Finalize vocab definitions for Quiz on Wednesday.
3. Read and discuss - Sherman's march across Georgia, and the end of the War at Appomattox courthouse.

Tuesday:

This is the final discussion day for Civil War lit circles. Students need to come prepared having finished their novels and prepared their roles for discussion. Students should have continued sticky notation for this final quarter of the novel.

Wednesday:
1. Primary Image analysis - Students will use the SIGHT method to interpret and discuss primary images from the end of the Civil War. What do they tell us about why and how this catastrophic conflict ended?

2. Vocab Quiz
- Civil War part II.

Thursday:
Final Activity Day - Civil War Lit Circles: All literature circles and teacher facilitators will join together in one room for a group presentation of skits, poems, songs and other artwork or research related to Civil War Novels. Each group will show or perform their favorite product.

Friday:
1. Current Event - Supreme Court Nomination Process.
2. Students will receive their final essay questions. They will select a question and begin gathering, citing and organizing specific details from their novels, notes, supplementary readings and activities to help them compose their essays.
