Announcements:
** During the Civil War literature circle unit, students are expected to complete readings and role sheets for discussions for Tuesdays. Readings are different for each of the novels, but are approximately 1/4 of the book each week.
** Congratulations Brooke Turkaviche and Sean Burkett for placing in the top 5 at the Wyoming State National History Day competition in Cheyenne!
** Sign up for the talent show on June 4th! This is a student and staff favorite each year. Sign-ups are ongoing in the JHMS student center.
** Current-event quiz based on notes from "Sons of Confederate Veterans" this Monday, May 2nd.
** The Community is invited to come hear one of the last surviving members of the Little Rock Nine speak in the JHMS commons this Thursday at 7pm.
Weekly Agenda:
Monday:
1. Current Events Quiz on Monday: This is an open-notes quiz on the CNN story "Sons of Confederate Veterans".
2. A lesson we did not get to last week: Women Spies and combatants (undercover) of the Civil War. Student groups will choose one of 7 highlighted female Civil War spies, gather information and report back to the class.
HW due Tuesday: Students complete literature circle readings and role-sheets to be used in discussion on Tuesday.
Tuesday:
Civil War Literature Circle groups will meet today. Be prepared with completed role sheets that show solid effort! Tuesdays are student-directed discussion. Some groups will be presenting activities unfinished from Thursday.
HW due Thursday: This week, all groups will complete lit. circle activities for presentation at the start of class on Thursday. Have fun! Continue to read for next Tuesday's goal.
Wednesday:
1. Clicker activity - Women Spies and Combatants of the Civil War.
2. Draft Riots in the Union and Confederacy: Students will use primary source newspaper images to interpret the what, where and why of draft riots during the Civil War.
Thursday:
HW due at the start of class today: Civil War novel product presentations. Students will present the products (sketches, reseach, music, learning activities etc.) to their literature circle groups.
Friday:
1. The Emancipation Proclamation: Was it a moral act, a political tact, or military strategy? Students will analyze the primary document and secondary sources to decide for themselves!
