Week of October 18th

Welcome Historians!

Announcements:

1. Final, bound and illustrated historical fiction books due Thursday at the start of class! Some of the layout and illustration work will have to be done at home.

2. Quarterly Recognition is coming up on October 29th - more info to come.


Agenda:

Monday:
1. Discussion and examples: What should be in an author's note?
2. Students craft author's notes and continue illustration and layout of historical fiction books. These are due at the start of class on Thursday. No more class-time will be used for layout and illustrations.
HW: Due Tomorrow - "From Columbus' Pen, Primary Document Analysis Questions"

Tuesday:
1. HW Check/Share
2. "History in the Making" Comparison of US Textbook accounts of Columbus' arrival and activities in America. We will compare entries from the years 1880, 1946 and 1995.

Wednesday:
1. Textbooks are distributed today. We will be using them intermittently, so please cover them.
2. Spanish Conquistadors: The motivations, methods and results of these empirical emissaries!
HW: Final bound and illustrated historical fiction stories due today tomorrow at the start of class.

Thursday:
1. Book-share and reciprocal reading of our final products! Students learning from each other's research.
2. Begin Early European Explorer webquest - a United Streaming activity.

Friday:
Today is a celebration of our completion of the 1st of 4 district performance assessments. We will be with Mr. Yazzolino's class. There will be food and hot chocolate. Students will be reading, discussing and critiquing work of students in Mr. Yazz' classes.
