Welcome back from the 3 day weekend!
Monday: Teachers busily reviewed and analyzed JHMS state and national test data in conjunction with our new professional development plan. We are ready for students to return!
Tuesday:
HW Due today - 4-6 images prepared for short-stories.
1. Students will receive their edited and graded rough-drafts and research notes back. We will be having a discussion of general trends found in their historical fiction writing, including what needs to be accomplished in revision and editing phases.
2. Review and ratification of student-created class mission statement. Students may opt to edit the statement before ratification.
3. Revision workshop and individual conferencing with teacher.
Wednesday:
Today we have a guest pARTners graphic artist who will be facilitating short-story visual layout and binding. Students will get a good start in today's class, but will likely finish at home.
Thursday:
1. Current Event Quiz: Midterm Election Vocabulary based on notes from last week.
2. Today is the last class period dedicated to revising and editing for the final draft. Mr. Wells will finish individual revision conferences.
HW: Due Monday, Oct 18th: Final Short Stories are due at the start of class!
Friday:
Intro: European Exploration of the Americas
1. Read Aloud: Columbus on HispaƱola: Gold, Slaves and Tierra!
2. Primary Document Analysis: Columbus' Letters and Journals
HW: Don't Forget: Final American Indian Historical Fiction Short Story Due on Monday at the start of class.
