Announcements:
**All 8th graders will be coming home with midterm reports that will need to be signed and returned.
** Mr. Wells will be in school Monday, but in meetings and observations with a literacy consultant from the Center for Educational Leadership.
** First draft of American Indian short story is due on Thursday by the end of class. This is 5-9 paragraphs of research based historical fiction or non-fiction writing. A noodle tools works cited in Advanced MLA format is required.
** Final draft of the researched-based short story is due on Thursday, October 14th
Agenda:
Monday:
1. Character Sketch: Based on research and notes from last week, students will be asked to write a 1-2 paragraph character sketch for the American Indian short story project. Before we begin, we will model an example character sketch using the book, "The Unbreakable Code".
HW: Complete 1-2 paragraph character sketch. Due at the start of class on Tuesday.
Tuesday:
1. HW Check and due dates written in agenda
2. Today we are completing a plot-diagram, or outline of the short stories. Students will be required to complete this before composition of rough drafts.
3. Most students will get started on their rough drafts: Students will need to underline or embolden historical details gotten from research within their stories.
Wednesday and Thursday:
1. We are writing our short stories, indicating where researched details are included and finalizing our works-cited. Mr. Wells and Ms. Fitz (periods 4&7) will be conferencing with individual students as they finalize the rough drafts.
Rough drafts and works cited are due at the end of class today. Be prepared!
Friday:
1. Current Event and Notes (Quiz early next week using these notes).
1. Peer editing and revision day. Students will be conferencing with each other to make guided critiques, corrections and revision suggestions of each other's work. Mr. Wells and Ms. Fitz (4th and 7th periods) will be continuing/finishing individual writing conferences).
