Week of November 1

Welcome Back Young Historians!

Announcements:

** This is the first week of the 2nd academic quarter!

** Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday and Wednesday November 9th & 10th. Students encouraged to participate. If you cannot make one of these dates, feel free to set up an after school meeting anytime. More to come on scheduling specific times.

Weekly Agenda:

Monday:
No school for students, teacher inservice.

Tuesday:
Mock Election today! Students have used the last two classes to research candidates and platforms for US House of Rep, Governor of WY, State Senate (District 17), and the non-partisan Mayor's race.
1. Review of election research notes.
2. Election!
3. Finish Spanish Conquistador jigsaw activity from last week. Please bring notes.

Be prepared! Study political spectrum chart for a quiz on Thursday.

Wednesday:

Students will be taking the ACT assessment, a pre-ACT that all Wyoming 8th grade students take.

Thursday:
1. Political Spectrum Quiz: Students place political parties and terms on a spectrum chart. Demonstrate your knowledge of how Americans describe varying political views and platforms.

2. Background knowledge and pre-teaching: Jamestown and the Virginia Stock Company.
HW: Primary Source Analysis Questions: An advertisement for the Jamestown Charter Colony. Due tomorrow.

Friday:
1. HW check/share - What does the primary source document tell us about the economic and social nature of the Jamestown venture?

2. Science meets History: A forensic investigation changes our ideas about Jamestown, the earliest, permanent British settlement.
