Week of November 15th

Welcome back!

Announcements:

** Colt Chronicle Club will be meeting Wednesday, in room 101 until 3:30 for final editing and to start on the layout for the early December issue.

** There will be a short written assessment on Wednesday - a comparison of Early Spanish and British exploration and colonization.

** Formal debates will be held this week - We'll be finishing up preparing ourselves for the debates on Monday and Tuesday if needed.

Weekly Agenda:

Monday:
1. Class brainstorm activity - finding similarities and differences between Spanish and British Colonization.
2. Debate research continued - Students use online and periodical resources to prepare arguments on 5 debate topics.
HW: Create an outline for the short comparison essay on Wednesday. (To be checked and shared in class tomorrow (Tuesday).

Tuesday:
1. HW Check: Students share details and commentaries from their outlines (These can be used on the in class essay on Wednesday).
2. The African Slave Trade: Analyzing early demographic data and maps.
3. Final Debate Research - depending on the short essays tomorrow, we may begin the first of 5 debates.

Wednesday:
1. Assessment: Compare/Contrast early Spanish and British Exploration and Colonization.
2. Debate #1 if enough time.

Thursday:
1. Primary Source Analysis: A Slave Ship Blueprint - Students will be introduced to the SIGHT analysis method.
2. We begin to read slave narratives.

Friday:
1. Debate #1 and 2: We will learn and begin the use the formal Lincoln-Douglas debate format.
2. Slave narrative jigsaw activity.
