Week of November 29th

Welcome back from the holiday weekend!

Overview: We are in the thick of our study of Colonial British America - Topics we'll be learning about this week include Colonial Geography, the Slave Trade, the Salem Witch Trials and we'll begin a more detailed study of the fascinating Benjamin Franklin.

Weekly Agenda:

Monday:
1. Vocabulary review: Whole class kinesthetic activity.
2. Finish small-group reading and jigsaw activity: Slave Narratives.
3. Periods 4,5, 7 will complete debate # 5

Tuesday:

1. Primary Image Analysis: Abolitionist Propaganda
2. Shared Reading: "Olaudah Equiano: Kidnapped into Slavery
3. Begin 13 Colonies Annotated Map.
HW: Review/Study Slave Trade vocabulary for quiz tomorrow.

Wednesday:

1. Brief Vocabulary Quiz: The British American Slave Trade
2. Salem Witch Trials: Social and Religious Conditions in Europe and the American Colonies: Shared Reading.
3. Continue Colonies Map work as needed.
HW Due Tomorrow (Thursday): Word Match and Short Response: Lessons from Salem.

Thursday:
1. Primary Image Analysis: Using the SIGHT method, students interpret a Colonial Image regarding Salem Witch Hunts.
2. Students Play! Using the primary source interrogation records, students put themselves in the shoes of the characters of the Witch Hunts.

Friday:
1. One Man's Almanac: A preview of Ben Franklin's astounding contributions to Colonial and Revolutionary society.
2. Introduction of "Benjamin's Follies" project - Student groups chose an aspect of Benjamin Franklin and begin to gather information for a presentation to the class next week.
