First Week Back from Break!

Welcome back folks!

Agenda for the Week:

HW due Tuesday
Quiz on Friday (See below for details)

Monday:
1. Students have new character and color groups. They will sit with the former and do a brief investigation into who their Civil War character is. Groups will share out to the class.

2. Primary Artifact Analysis: Students will analyze actual Civil War infantry artifacts that saw service in Vicksburg. They belonged to Mr. Wells' relative, Henry Clay Wells who fought with the Ohio Infantry.

HW Due Tomorrow: Student choice: Read about either abolitionist: William Loyd Garrison or Soujorner Truth, and answer critical thinking questions.

Tuesday:

1. HW Check and Share:

2. Final phase of Civil War artifact analysis and share-out.

3. United Streaming Clip: Frederick Douglass.

Wednesday:

1. Read in small groups: "The Soldiers" Students will compare their own 14 year-old lives with that of similar-aged soldiers in the Civil War. Groups are assigned sections, identify expository text structure for that section and create 4 QAT questions for other groups to answer.

2. Once groups have created questions for their specific section, groups read all other sections and answer the QAT questions created by their peers.

3. Whole-group discussion on the article at hand.

Thursday:

1. We will likely need to wrap up whole-group discussion of "The Soldiers"

2. Review activity for quiz: What role did the following people, who correspond to our character seating groups, play in the Civil War?
Ulysses S. Grant, Jefferson Davis, Pauline Cushman, Matthew Brady, Harriet Tubman, Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass

Friday:

1. Quiz (Civil War characters - see above)
2. Current Event: Keeping pace with the budget crisis and the Middle East
