First Week of School!!

Welcome to 8th Grade US History!

On this site you will find weekly agendas and links related to our study of the American experiment in democracy.
Class objectives, standards and policies are being sent home on the Course Expectations form.

Find the agenda for the first 3 days of school below and please e-mail me with any questions that don't come up in class. Parents and students will be receiving a weekly e-mail with a link to this website. Students will also receive a paper copy on the first day of each week.


Wednesday, August 31
*Greetings!
1.Fun Survey: What do we already know?
2.Course Expectation Form (Students will need to review these with parent guardian and bring in on Tuesday, Sept. 6th).
3. Introduction and practice with course expectations and processes: (Turn and Talk – PTT - Group member tasks – Right Now Activities)
4. The Crazy Game of Team Focus!!!
Informal HW: Ask your family about basic ancestry and record their answers! Where did your ancestors immigrate from?

Thursday, September 1
1. Current Event: National Trends in US History Achievement – Students examine a recent article on nationwide 8th grade US History test results and propose ideas of how to change low national History knowledge.
2. Ancestry Map activity – Students use informal HW interviews.

HW: Bring in emergency forms to home-base tomorrow!

Friday, September 2
1. Students begin by developing their own classroom behavior expectations in assigned groups.
2. Thinking Like a Historian: Students are introduced to the Thinking Like a Historian framework, which we will use as a critical lens for examining US History this year.
HW Due Tuesday: Bring in Signed Course Expectation Forms with parent/guardian e-mails.
