Greetings! It was a pleasure to meet students last week. What a great group! Here is the agenda for September 6th-9th. You might notice some content that we tried to get to last week and couldn’t fit in.
Tuesday, September 6th:
Due Today: Students should bring in 3 ring binders today. Also: Course Expectation Forms, with parent/guardian signatures are due today.
1. Today students will be introduced to the Thinking Like a Historian framework. It will be a lens we will use to critically examine US History this year. Poduska’s and Wells’ classes will be together analyzing an article about how life has changed after the 9/11 terrorist attack. Students will be asked to follow the news for 9/11 stories during the upcoming week.
Wednesday, September 7th:
1. Students working on developing their own classroom behavior expectations.
2. Competing theories on how the first Americans arrived on the continent: We will be reading a Time Magazine for kids article and analyzing competing archeological evidence on Paleo-migration.
*Related Vocab will be pre-taught and distributed. Vocab Quiz on Friday, September 12th.
Thursday, September 8th :
1. Ongoing work on American Indian Cultural Regions map.
2. Students charting evidence and theories from Wednesday’s article.
3. Vocab practice!
HW: Draft a practice paragraph using Paleo vocabulary for Friday about competing archeological evidence using specified vocabulary. They may use this rough draft on the assessment tomorrow.
Friday, September 9th
1. HW check and share – Students read and critique each others’ paragraphs.
2. Students review, adjust and sign final version of their classroom behavior expectations.
3. Brief Vocabulary Quiz: Using their rough drafts, students write a 1-2 paragraph description and analysis of at least 2 paleo-migration theories. They will use targeted vocabulary from this week’s reading.
