Week of November 14th

Greetings: Before Thanksgiving break begins, students will be working towards a quiz that compares early Spanish and British colonization in North America. The quiz will be on Tuesday, November 21st.
Monday:
1. Quick review before taking European Explorer quiz. Each class chose last week which explorers will appear on their quiz.
2. Final Edit: Class mission statement – Students will be making final suggestions/edits. We did not get to this last week.
3. Spanish Colonization in the New World: Students will be doing small group readings, and note-taking for a jigsaw activity tomorrow. There will be a quiz before Thanksgiving, comparing Spanish and British colonization.
Tuesday:
1. HW Check
2. Student jigsaw groups will from and students will explain the sections that they read about to their partners. As a whole class, we will generate a vocabulary list to be used on the comparison quiz next week.
HW Due Tomorrow: Dawning of a New Age. Students will answer 1-10 after studying an early American colonization timeline.
Wednesday:
1. HW Check/Discussion
2. Primary Image Analysis: Students will study an advertisement for the Jamestown colony posted in London in 1609.
3. Jamestown: Shared reading - The British arrive in the New World with their first permanent settlement, bringing the first African slaves. Why does this settlement fail at first? Students create the first part of a foldable organizer.
Thursday:
1. Primary Resource: The Mayflower Compact. Is this a first step towards British American self-rule?
2. Students complete part two of their foldable organizer with information about the Plymouth Colony.
HW Due Tomorrow – Current Event with Notes (See below for details).
Friday:
1.Current Event Day: Students bring in articles with basic notes written on attached sheet and present their articles to the class.
Notes will include: Title, source and date, as well as main idea and 3-5 supporting details. Notes will be turned in!
