Week of November 28th

Greetings! Welcome back from break. I hope it was relaxing for you. Students with missing work may make it up during team, lunch or after school on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday this week. Please make an appointment by signing up on the back board.

Monday:
New student groups – students will find out who is in each of their new work/reading groups. We will also review the final draft of our student-created class mission statement.
1. Debate Topic Selection – Students will be using pre-selected debate forum websites to choose topics for our debate on Friday.
2. The British African slave trade – Early demographics and maps.
HW Due Tuesday: Define Slavery Terminology – In your own words. Use a dictionary, glossary or online resource. Handed out in class.

Tuesday:
HW Check/Share
1. Each class will vote from the list of debate topics generated on Monday and select two for our debate on Friday.
2. Primary Image Analysis: Slave ship blueprint. We will use the SIGH method.
3. Slave Narratives: Although few first person accounts exist, the ones that do shed a wealth of historical insight. We will begin reading four particularly amazing accounts in small groups.

Wednesday:
1. Complete Slave Narrative Readings – Groups will share out their information using small visual displays.
2. Begin debate topic research – Do your best and use your time wisely – These will be handed in after the debate on Friday for a small current event grade. Students will be using vetted sites to gather both pros and cons regarding the topics they selected on Mon/Tues.


Thusday:
Final debate research time. Students will be working in pro or con teams.
HW: Complete debate research online if needed – these will be turned in after the debate for a small current event grade.

Friday:
We will hold our second Lincoln-Douglas style debate.
