Week of January 3rd

Greetings! I hope you had a great break! May 2012 be the best year yet. The end of the second academic quarter is January 20th, please take the time to check power school and make up missing work. There will be a short essay quiz on Tuesday, January 10th.

Tuesday:
1. Refocus! An overview of where the last two weeks of quarter 2 will take us.
2. Republican Caucus and Primaries: We will discuss the general purpose of the primary elections and see a short CNN news story that reviews the 2012 Republican candidates.
3. Review as a whole group our organizer notes for events leading to the American Revolution. We will do this as a gallery walk to ensure student engagement.
Note: Short essay quiz on Tuesday the 10th – Students may use their notes to construct a short essay response on the causes of the American Revolution.


Wednesday:
1. Finish Colonies Map and turn in. Requirements: Completed legend with foundational symbols on the front map for each colony.
2. Student Play: Students will act out the final days of the Continental Congress’ initiative to draft and vote on a Declaration of Independence. What could they agree or not agree to vote in favor of including in the final version?
HW: Due Tomorrow – Equality Time Capsule - Choose any 3 of 6 types of equality and write examples that show how they were interpreted in 1776 and today. We will discuss first thing in class tomorrow.

Thursday:
1. HW check/share Equality Time Capsule
2. Working with full text copies of the Declaration of Independence, students will identify and summarize the contents of the four sections of this important, primary document.

Friday:
1. Finish our primary document analysis from yesterday.
2. Preamble Scramble! Students will begin to interpret the meaning of the loaded preamble sentences with a kinesthetic game.
