Week of January 9th

Greetings! The end of the second academic quarter is January 20th, please take the time to check power school and make up missing work before the 18th. There will be a short essay assessment on Tuesday, January 10th. The geography bee will be held 1st period this Tuesday in room 101. 8th grade winners will compete against 6th and 7th grade winners on Thursday morning.

Monday:
1. Complete the close read and notes on the 4 sections of the Declaration of Independence.
2. Students will have the opportunity to view the essay test question for tomorrow and begin preparing an outline. Tomorrow, students will use selected class notes and their outline to construct an expository essay response on the causes of the American Revolution and the significance of the Declaration of Independence as both a political statement and human rights document.
HW: Fine-tune your essay outlines if needed.

Tuesday: Please note - Geography Bee for 8th grade – 1st period in room 101!
In Class Short Essay Response: Final Unit Assessment
(Note: 3rd and 4th period NHD students will be in class today and attend NHD with Mrs. Brumsted tomorrow)

Wednesday:
Students will select new debate topics for our third formal Lincoln-Douglas debate of the year. This round, topics will relate to promises of equality made in the Declaration of Independence and related Constitutional issues like teen rights! (We are moving forward into a Constitution Unit at the start of the 3rd quarter)

Thursday:
Final debate research and prep in class. In order to participate in our debate, students must have fulfilled their research requirements, which also count as the final current event of quarter 2.
HW: Complete debate research if needed.

Friday:
Lincoln-Douglas debates today! By now, students a more familiar with the Lincoln-Douglas format. We will make a push to use evidence-based argumentation and accountable student talk. Students will either debate or judge. Winners will compete against Mr. Poduska’s class winners.
