Students did a fantastic job on the Amendment quiz! Grades are in Power School. We are moving forward with our study of the Constitution as a map of government and a foundation for personal protections.
Monday:
New student resource officer Mark Morzov will be in classes today discussing Constitutional issues and case law from an enforcement perspective. Students prepared questions for him on Friday.
Tuesday:
1. Debrief of information from Officer Mark.
2. Final review of Supreme Court cases important to teens. Student groups read about one of 6 cornerstone cases and created a summary for other groups to use in a gallery walk note-taking format. Today we will look at this information as a whole class.
3. Create your own Constitutional Amendment! What would you do to fundmentally improve this Nation? We will first look at real proposals for Amendments. Students will write a proposal and 2-paragraph explanation to share in class tomorrow. Finish this proposal for HW if needed – Due tomorrow.
Wednesday:
1. HW Check/Share: We will hear students’ proposed Constitutional Amendments and classes will vote to ratify one!
2. Begin review for the US Constitution Standard on Friday. Students will need to choose one essay question from a list that includes some of the Supreme Court cases, debate topics and Amendment information we have been studying. Essays are weighted heavily and students will be expected to prepare an outline with supporting details that will be handed in with the in-class essay response.
HW Due Thursday: Write a topic sentence that is your educated opinion on the subject (Thesis Statement).
Thursday:
1. HW Check and Share – We’ll look at and evaluate students’ thesis statements.
2. Students will have time to begin an outline for tomorrow’s in-class essay question.
3. Review jeopardy game for the Constitutional Standard.
HW: Study for the Constitution standard and work on your essay outline if needed.
Friday:
Students will take the US Constitution Standard, which includes an in-class essay response. Students may use their prepared outlines.
