This week JHMS will be holding parent conferences on Tuesday and Thursday between 3 and7pm. Students should have signed up for a time through their TEAM teachers. This is an approximate arrival time, not a specific meeting appointment and serves the purpose of spreading out the potential 170 families. Students are encouraged to attend!
** Note: Mr. Wells will not be in class on Monday and Tuesday. He’ll be attending literacy instruction meetings with all History and Science teachers. He will be available to students before and after school.
Monday:
Students will examine the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, an awe-inspiring technological feat that connected the expanded Nation. Students will use Thinking Like Historians’ guiding questions to explore the many impacts of building the railroad, and consequentially, the transnational telegraph wire.
Tuesday:
We will turn our focus to early Jackson’s Hole history, from heroic trappers and homesteaders to shady horse thievery and rustlers. Student groups will be reading an article from the Jackson Hole Historical Society’s periodical on Davey Jackson and his more nefarious counterpart, Teton Jackson. We’ll be visiting the JH Historical Society’s museum at the end of the quarter!
Wednesday:
Today is a review of the various content in our Westward Expansion unit. We will tie together the concepts, events and people in a series of review games.
HW: Set aside some time to study timeline and notes for the quiz tomorrow.
Thursday:
1. Quiz – Westward Expansion overview.
2. We will be launching the Old West Periodical Project. Students will see examples of final products from past years, get project instructions and browse our impressive media center collection of non-fiction to help them choose a theme/topic for closer research. This project will carry us through the end of the 3rd academic quarter.
Friday:
There is no school today!
