Week of June 4th

Monday: We will be preparing thesis statements and supporting textual evidence on 5*8 notecards for tomorrow’s final in-class essay test. Students may bring their 5*8 card and their novel to the test tomorrow. Tuesday: Civil War final essay test: Students chose one question to answer last week. Questions/prompts ask students to connect their lit. circle novel to broader US History issues. Students will need to effectively use textual evidence to support their educated opinions. This will be our last graded assignment, and counts for 20% of academic quarter 4. Wednesday: (Today is the final day to turn in late work or re-takes!) We’ll be examining at the rise of terror groups such as the KKK in the post-war, Jim Crow South by examining period newspaper articles and images. How did these groups attempt to keep Freedmen from participating in democracy? Thursday: We’ll be looking back over the year at our various units of study. Students will compete in a series of fun review games for prizes. Friday: Video: “The Children’s March” - Civil Rights and MLK’s use of children in non-violent civil disobedience. We will be answering the question: Why is this relevant in light of our studies this year? Talent show at 12:00 in the JHHS auditorium!
