Welcome back to school!

Wednesday, August 29th *Greetings! 1.Fun Survey: What do we already know? 2.Course Expectation Form and curricular overview (Students will need to review these with parent/guardian and bring in with signature on Tuesday, Sept. 4th). 3. Introduction and practice with course expectations and processes: (Turn and Talk – PTT -– Right Now Activities) 4. The Crazy Game of Team Focus!!! (We will go outside for this) Informal HW Due Friday: Ask your family about basic ancestry and record their answers! Where did your ancestors immigrate to the US from? When did they arrive? We’ll be using this information in Friday’s class. Thursday, August 30th 1. Students begin by developing their own History classroom behavior expectations – both for students and the teacher. These will be edited into a set of classroom behavior rules. 2. Current Event: National Trends in US History Achievement – Students examine a recent article on nationwide 8th grade US History test results and ponder the importance of understanding History. 3. Thinking Like a Historian: Students are introduced to the Thinking Like a Historian framework, which we will use as a critical lens for examining US History this year. Friday, September 2 Ancestry Map activity – Students use information from family interviews (see HW from Wed.) We will look for immigration trends and share family stories if available. HW Due Tuesday: Bring in Signed Course Expectation Forms with parent/guardian e-mails.
