Week of September 4th
Greetings! It was a pleasure to meet students last week. What a great group! Here is the agenda for September 4 - 7.
Tuesday, September 4th
Due Today: Students should bring in 3 ring binders today. Also: Course Expectation Forms, with parent/guardian signatures are due today.
1. We’ll be putting our binders together.
2. Competing theories on how the first Americans arrived on the continent: We will be reading a Time Magazine for kids article and analyzing competing archeological evidence on Paleo-migration scenarios.
*Related Vocab will be pre-taught before looking at the article.
3. Students will get a look at and a chance to edit the classroom behavior expectations that they brainstormed last Thursday.
Wednesday, September 5th
1. BOUNCE – Today we will focus on increasing high quality student-to-student commentary as we continue to delve into competing evidence and theories of who the first Americans were and where they came from. This will involve finishing our article from yesterday.
2. Using Vocab – See HW below:
HW: Draft a practice paragraph using Paleo vocabulary for Friday about competing archeological evidence. We will look at examples in class. Students will receive an optional organizer to help them construct this evidence-based paragraph.
Thursday, September 6th
1. HW check and share – Students read and critique each others’ paragraphs.
2. Video Clip: Archeologists work to solve Paleo-Indian questions.
HW: Vocab quiz tomorrow – Students write 1-2 paragraphs, comparing evidence and theories of how the first people arrived to America.
Friday, September 7th
1. Quiz: In-Class writing goal: Write a clear and effective paragraph that compares evidence and theories of how and when the first peoples migrated to the Americas. Students can use their rough drafts.
2. Current Event Update: Election 2012
