Week of 9/10...Remembrance Week

Monday: Right now activity: How does climate/geography affect our community’s culture here in Jackson, Wyoming? 1. Students will get a chance to make final edits to classroom behavior expectations that they wrote in week one. Students will be expected to approve and sign the guidelines. 2. Small group work and gallery-walk jigsaw. Students will be using media center resources and classroom readings to learn about American Indian Cultural Regions. What tribes and bands lived in specific regions? How were their cultures influenced by geography? (Connection to right now activity) Tuesday: 9/11 1. Right Now Activity: SIGH analysis – Iconic 9/11 Images (This will be an introduction to the SIGH method of primary image analysis, which we will be using throughout the year. Focusing Question: How has 9/11 changed our society? 2. Students complete the Gallery Walk from yesterday, gathering and processing information from other student’s displays. HW: Due Thursday at the start of class: Complete comparison Venn diagram of two regions’ climates and cultures. Underlying question: How does climate affect culture? Wednesday: 1. We will return to election and political descriptors today. Students will get a glossary of election vocabulary. We will preview the vocabulary and read an article about the birth of political parties in the post-colonial US. What has stayed the same and what has changed from that period? (Quiz on election glossary terms next week!) Thursday: 1.HW check and share – (See Tuesday) 2.Explanation/review for quiz tomorrow. 3.A look at Lakota – How are modern American Indians dealing with the loss of native languages? Associated Press Article. Friday: 1. American Indian Regions Quiz: This includes map identification of regions, two tribes per region and a statement connecting geography or climate with the culture of those tribes.
