Monday:
Martin Luther King
Day – No school for kids!
Tuesday:
1. An inauguration on MLK day is a fantastic way to begin
our US Constitution Unit – We’ll first look at Article II, Section 1 of the
Constitution, and then watch the inaugural oath, and the first part of the
President’s speech, which references the Declaration, the Revolution and the US
Constitution.
2. Small groups will be tasked with creating their own
representative government outline so they can empathize with the incredible
task of our founding fathers! Only one new government can be ratified per class
election!
Wednesday:
1. US Constitution Scavenger Hunt – Students will compete to
find fundamental details regarding checks and balances embedded in the 3
branches of government.
2. Outline of
articles I-III of the US Constitution. Why was a separation of powers in the
best interest of our young Nation? Is this form of government still successful?
Students will identify checks and balances between the 3 branches of government
using a visual organizer.
