Week of February 25th

Note: Parent Conferences are being held this Monday and Wednesday from 4-8pm. It is helpful if students sign up in Team classes for a specific arrival time. This way, we can avoid too many people showing up at one time. It is understood that signing up for a time slot can be difficult, especially for parents with students in multiple grades.
Also: JH Historical Society and Museum will be visiting on Wednesday!

Monday:
1. Students will be learning about the incredible Louisiana Purchase, which doubled the size of the nation and initiated a host of expeditionary quests to explore this new territory – notably the Corps of Discovery.
2.  Small groups will be working with maps and an interactive National Geographic website to investigate a section of the Lewis and Clark expedition into the Louisiana Territory.  What were the challenges, accomplishments and discoveries of each section on the trip?
HW Due Thursday: Lewis and Clark map and questions.

Tuesday:
1. Shared Historical Fiction reading: The Lewis and Clark Expedition through the eyes of Seaman, the expedition’s sole canine.
2. Small groups begin presenting out their Lewis and Clark Expedition information.

Wednesday:
Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum will be visiting today. The class focus is learning about the difference between primary and secondary sources. Shannon and Clayton will be bringing in a host of Historical Society resources!

Thursday:
1.  We’ll revisit and practice with our Westward Expansion vocabulary, which we began last Friday. There will be a quiz on these terms on Monday.
2.  Students will begin their Lewis & Clark field observation: In the tradition of scientific discovery and documentation on the voyage, students will be choosing a flora or fauna to sketch and create field notes. We’ll look at several actual Lewis and Clark examples before beginning.
3. HW check and share L&C homework that is due today (See Monday).

Friday:
