1. We’ll continue with our reading of The Unbreakable Code: Navajo Code Talkers,
by Sara Hoagland Hunter. Today, small groups will be taking a section of this
story for a close-read. We will continue to define what elements make the
book part of the historical fiction genre.
2. Insult or Honor? Students will be completing a reading/notes
on the use of American Indian mascots by athletic teams and school districts.
Next week we will have a formal debate on this topic.
|
1. Students will be
introduced to our historical fiction storybook assignment. They will be
evaluating past student projects on the rubric with which they will be
graded. We will have our media center
non-fiction collection available to help students choose a topic related to
historical or modern American Indians.
|
1. Using our media center non-fiction and electronic
media, students will conduct quick
surface research to aid them in choosing a focus area for their storybooks.
2. American Indian Content Review for test tomorrow. Last week, students reflected on our
various learnings and materials and drafted their own test questions.
Students will be working in small groups based on how they
rated themselves on the various content areas.
|
1. American Indian content
test. Many of the questions were created by students themselves, based on
our readings and other classroom activities such as photo-analysis.
2. Media center guest
Ms. Swiggum will be in class for 25 minutes teaching students how to create
an annotated bibliography that will link their research sources with content
info within their storybooks. We will
follow up with this next week in the media center.
|
