Welcome Back! 4/21

Welcome back to school! Only 6 weeks left and we have some very important topics to explore.

Detailed Quiz on Friday, 4/25 -- Events and Issues Leading to the Civil War such as Compromises of 1820 and 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law, the Abolitionist Movement, the Dred Scott decision and Northern and Southern economies. Students will receive the full list on Monday and work on identifying and placing the events and issues into a workable context for understanding the causes of the US Civil War.

This week, Mon, Tues and Thursday if needed, students will be in the Imac Lab, working on an United Streaming video assignment regarding the events leading up to the US Civil War. This will be important to student's understanding and background knowledge for the Civil War literature unit that will begin next week.

Also this week -- Each class has several students who have not presented their Invent and Invest project. These students will present first thing on Monday and gift certificates donated in part by Main Event Video will be given to students who garnered the most investment money from their peers to fund their patent application.

Next week: 4/28 - Students will begin lit. circle books. Students chose a book after a book discussion before break. If the book was appropriate for their lexile range as demonstrated on the PAWS test, that is the novel they will be reading. Mr. Wells' and Mr. Yazz' students will be mixed according to novel groups.
