Week of January 25th

Welcome Back!

Announcements:

** The Student-Council Help for Haiti drive is continuing. There are collection jars at the front office and in the media center for cash donations. We are also now working in conjunction with Mrs. Rominger's art project "Building Tiny Houses" - students can buy pins and donations will go towards the Haitian recovery.

** Student Council Dance: Feb 5th 7-9:30 in the JHMS Commons.

** 8th Grade History Standard: US Constitution Test will be this Thursday, January 28th.


Agenda:

Monday:
Students, in small groups, will complete analyzing Supreme Court case studies related to students' 1st amendment rights and will create gallery walk posters to teach their peers about the decisions.

Tuesday:
1. Gallery Walk: Students will evaluate and take notes on their peers' posters in an informal showroom format.
2. Students create skits related to the hypothetical repeal of the Bill of Rights: Students have to guess which amendment is at play in a charades format.

Wednesday:
1. Revisit: How a Bill becomes a Law - The many tracks and obstacles for legislating at the federal level.
2. Review for the US Constitution Standard! Essay question choices will be provided, and students can bring in one 5*7 index card with essay outline notes.

Thursday:
US Constitution Standard: Topics include: 3 branches of gov; Bill of Rights and other amendments; Supreme Court Cases we have learned; essays relating the above topics to students' own lives.

Friday:
Start of the Westward Expansion Unit - Louisiana Purchase.
