Week of March 22

Welcome Back!

** National History Day regional competition in Lander this Friday! JHMS is sending 4 competitors who received top marks from judging last Tuesday by members of the JHMS staff and administration. All NHD participants are welcome to come to Lander.

**Thanks for a fantastic quarterly recognition on Friday at Snow King and the Elk's Club Lanes. 8th Graders deserve to be rewarded for showing-up and working hard consistently!

**This is the final week before Spring Break.

Monday:
1. Quarterly Goal Setting and Reflection: What have students learned? What do students want to accomplish in their last quarter of Middle School History?

2. Presentations begin for the Invent and Invest project. Students present to their peers to convince them to invest in their Inventions. Each class will have a winner who attracts the most investment capital. Winners get a pair of movie passes.
3-5 paragraph process paper is due today.

Tuesday

1. Finish Invent and Invest presentations. (See above for details) Results tally and awards!

Wednesday

1. Issues leading to the Civil War: In the decades before the Civil War, the young Union struggled with its identity, racism, rapid growth and differing socio-economic models that would test the Constitution. Students will be working in pairs in the media center's tech lab, investigating the compromises and conflicts that led the Confederacy to secede from the Union.

Thursday:
1. Finish the online activity, Issues leading to the Civil War
2. Analyze Primary Sources: Students will be investigating archived Civil War era newspapers using the SIGHT method.

Friday:

Last day before break! I will be with Ms. Brumsted in Lander with the National History Day JHMS competitors. Our classes will get together with Mr. Yazz' classes to view Frederick Douglass a feature film about one of America's most eloquent and brave orators.
