Week of December 13th

Reminders: There are many absences during the week leading up to the holiday break. Please be sure and bring in a pre-excused absence form well before you leave!

1. Review-Finish Vocabulary Notes: Quiz on Thursday
2. Students Translate Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" into their own songs in small groups. We did not get to this last week.
HW: Finish paraphrasing "Common Sense" - Be ready to share!

Tuesday:
1. Student Performances: T-Paine and Common Cents!
2. The Boston Massacre: Royal Aggression or Colonial Propaganda?
HW Due Wednesday: Short Response and Matching - The Boston Massacre

Wednesday:
1. HW Check and Share
2. SIGHT Document Analysis - Sons of Liberty Poster
3. Declaration of Independence: Identifying the basic contents of the 4 major sections of this treasonous and revolutionary document: The Preamble; Natural Rights; List of Complaints; Resolution of Independence
HW: "Get Ready to Get Involved!" Students think about and list ways that they can be civically active 13 and 14 year-olds even though they can't vote.

Thursday:

1. HW Check and Share
2. Vocabulary Quiz:
3. Declaration of Independence: Be a Truth Detective! Students receive an erroneous article about the making of the Declaration and must find the errors and correct them.

Friday:
1. Current Event Quiz: The Obama/Republican Tax Compromise: Open Notes Quiz.
1. Prepare for Essay Test on Monday: Students receive the essay question and review the rubric for the essay quiz.
2. Equality Time Capsule: How has the notion of Equality changed from 1776 to 2010? Students create comparisons.
