Announcements:
After school History work sessions will be open Monday and Tuesday in room 101. The final day to turn in late/missing work for the 3rd quarter is Tuesday, March 15th.
PAWS writing and math are ongoing this week. No HW will be assigned during PAWS testing.
Monday and Tuesday:
1. Opening Activity: Political Cartoon Analysis - The Media and the Middle East
2. We continue our current events research on the protests and civil unrest in Libya, Yemen, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Students are updating their research with fresh news sources and putting together presentations using Google Earth, news video clips and written summaries of events. By the end of the day Tuesday, all groups will have presented and developed new debate statements based on their current event research.
Wednesday and Thursday:
We change pace with a look at pre-Civil War expansionism and the problems it caused with regard to the slave trade. Students will be learning about the various compromises made by Congress to limit the growth of slavery and contrast it with Supreme Court decisions affecting Slavery.
Friday:
Debate preparation: Students will be researching, citing and documenting both pros and cons for their chosen debate statement. Time allowing, we will begin our first debate.
