Greetings! Welcome back from the long weekend. We will be wrapping up research and starting the writing process. We are creating well-researched, historical fiction storybooks!
Monday: Columbus Day – No school!
Tuesday:
Final day of research! This is the final of five days in the media center. We are finding appropriate research sources and taking useful notes. Notes and citations will be checked tomorrow first thing as part of the project grade.
Wednesday:
1. Notes Check! We will be reviewing and organizing the information we have gathered. Along with students’ self-evaluations from their time in the media center, students’ notes will be assessed as part of the project grade.
2. Using the work students completed last week – character sketches and plot summaries- students will begin drafting their rough drafts of historical fiction. Students will be asked to denote all research details within their paragraphs.
HW for Friday: 30 minutes out-of-class writing on rough drafts!
Thursday:
Today is a studio day. Various JHMS teachers and administration will observe our classes with an eye for literacy instruction practices. We will be reading and comparing various interpretations of Columbus’ first interaction with Americans in the New World.
Friday:
1. HW Due: Students will bring in writing they continued from Wednesday. We will be dedicating the entire class to writing rough drafts. Students will be asked to denote all research details that appear in their stories!
HW for Monday: 30 out-of school writing. Rough drafts due at end of the day on Monday.
