  Teacher Development: No school for students.  


1. Comparing early Spanish and British exploration and colonization: Continue with independent readings within A Young People’s History of the United States.  We will need half of the class to finish this reading. Students will be citing textual evidence to answering thematic questions about colonization.

With a purpose of building knowledge through multiple sources, we will be pulling and comparing information with what we have read previously in A Young People’s History…
1. Close read: Primary Source – The Mayflower Compact:
 * What does it tell us about the intentions of Saints (Pilgrims) and Strangers (Non-Pilgrims)?

* Is this Civil Body Politic the precursor of Democracy in the New World? 
1.  Organizing Historical Ideas:  We will spend today organizing textual evidence from three sources in preparation for our fishbowl discussion early next week. Performance in this formal discussion will be assessed, so students will want to be prepared with organized textual evidence.

2. Present Current Events in small groups – Please turn in article and analysis for your HW grade.
