1. Comparing early
Spanish and British exploration and colonization: We’ll use our notes and textual evidence
from the last three readings to identify major themes and develop questions
for our formal fishbowl discussion on Thursday.

1. We’ll be learning and practicing the
format of a fishbowl, a formal discussion style. Students will use questions
they developed yesterday. One major target is to use textual evidence from
class materials in the discussion.

1. The graded assessment from this
mini-unit on early colonization is today’s formal discussion in which all
students are expected to participate.
Students are
assessed on:
a. Coming prepared
to formal discussion with materials.
b. Use of textual evidence in addressing questions and
comments.
c. Student’s addressing others’ comments and ideas.

Optional Extra Credit – Interview a
member of the US Armed Services for Veteran’s Day. Students should create their own questions
ahead of time and turn in a written transcript of the interview with citation
information.
