1. Because so many students have shown such initiative
coming in for extra work time, or working from home on storybooks, we will
use today’s class to finish layout.
2. Students who have finished will move forward with a
comparative reading on early colonization by the Spanish and British in A Young People’s History of the United
States.

At the end of a long-term project, we’ll reflect on our
collective learnings and looking ahead with a group timeline of US history
topics and themes we’ll be studying this year.

1. Comparing early
Spanish and British exploration and colonization: We’ll start with a shared
read of the author’s note and then continue with independent readings within A Young People’s History of the United
States.

1. American Republic
text – Map and Specialized Vocab. Jamestown and Plymouth Colonies.
2. Close read: Primary Source – The Mayflower Compact: What does it tell us about the intentions
of Saints and Strangers? (This may
need to be finished next week).

1. National History
Day presentation by high school students who participated in previous
years. They will explain what the program is all about from an insider’s
perspective. Interested students
should apply by November 1 to Mrs. Sanchez.
2. Quarterly Recognition! Students choose activities in
team.
